Dear Families, I hope that you were able to spend time with each other over the past week. Over the course of this week, I will be in contact regarding what learning will look like going forward. I know that this is new and may be overwhelming for some families, please be assured that I will try to do my best in alleviating concerns that families and students may have. In order to move forward, I need to know some information from each family. Please send me an email ([email protected]) stating the answers to the following questions by the end of today (MONDAY, March 30).
Your support and cooperation is very much appreciated. Thank you & be well. Ms. T. Behl Dear Parents & Students, I hope you are all doing well during this very unique and interesting time. I didn't realize that last Thursday/Friday would the final time we would see each other for a while. However, during this time it is important to practice "social distancing" and to stay home. I want to let you all know that both myself and my family are doing well and thinking of you each day. Student focus:
Above all, stay safe and healthy. Take this gift of time to spend it with your families and loved ones. I will be in contact with families after Spring Break, once we have further direction on what it looks like going forward. Take care, be safe & stay healthy, Ms. Tracy Behl Please refer to an email that was sent on TUESDAY, March 17 regarding the collection of student personal items at school. Dear Chaparral Families,
Thank you for your support and patience as we endeavor to make sense of and adjust to the indefinite cancellation of classes within the province of Alberta. While we are unable to meet face to face, the well-being of our students and families is very much on our minds. At times like this we realize that like us, children and young people will have worries and wonders. It is important that we, the adults in their lives talk to them in a factual and age-appropriate way. Let them know that worrying is a normal and healthy response. We need to be honest and accurate, explaining how the actions being taken at present, will in the long run work toward the collective good. It is also important that children and young people are involved in things that interest them and provide some physical and mental rigor. In the next few days and during Spring Break, I encourage everyone to get outside, to read good books, play games, write stories, draw pictures, create, and maybe even watch a few good programs on TV. In addition to filling the time with meaningful activities and talking, please remember that higher level mental health supports are available if needed. In a recent broadcast, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer reminded us that, “Anyone struggling with their mental health can reach out to the Mental Health Help Line which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Help is also available across Alberta through your local health services. "Children and teens can also call or text the Kids Help Phone at any time of day or night. This is a free, confidential and professional service designed to meet our young peoples’ needs. 1-800-668-6868 Collection of Personal Items from Chaparral School Starting on Wednesday, March 18, we will be facilitating optional parent retrieval of students’ personal items, (things like books, glasses, snow pants, indoor shoes, special notebooks, pencils, personally owned recorders, etc.) and return of things like library books that are no longer needed at home. Student supplies, work and materials such as workbooks, folders, pencils, scissors, etc. will remain at school. This opportunity is only in place if items are needed. Please do not come into the school if you do not feel the need. Items left in the school will be safely stored. In keeping with guidelines set out by AHS, we have created a collection schedule that mitigates the number of people coming in and out of the building at one time. Remember that individuals who are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness (i.e. fever, cough, fatigue and/or muscle aches) should not come to the school. Alternate times to pick up personal belongings will be made at a later time for those who are sick, self-isolating or unable to accommodate the schedule. Please email your child(ren)’s teacher directly if you intend to come to the school to collect personal items. During your visit, staff will not be available to meet with families for any reason. The office is also closed for walk-in questions. It is recommended that children are not in the school. Children sent to the school to pick up belongings without an adult will not be admitted into the school. While this approach goes against our nature, it is in keeping with our social distancing directives. Also, please limit the number of family members coming into the building. Where possible, our teachers have already gathered and labeled your child’s belongings for easy pick-up. Upon arrival at the school please come to the front door, leave items you are returning in the vestibule in the bins provided and retrieve items from the classroom or in the hallway, and exit. I've been a teacher at Chaparral School since 2010, in which I have taught grades 3, 4, and 5. I enjoy working with students in engaging activities that allow for personal growth, believing that each child can succeed and become independent learners who demonstrate personal responsibility. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, quilting, and gardening. Archives
