Update from Chaparral School Office - Coronavirus (email sent Wednesday, Jan. 29)
Dear Parents/Guardians, Over the past few days, there has been a great deal of information in the news media regarding the coronavirus – a flu-like, respiratory virus. The CBE is in contact with Alberta Health Services. As with all matters of health, we take their direction on what to do in our schools. They are actively monitoring the situation and will respond effectively should there be any cases of the virus in Alberta. The overall risk to Albertans is considered by medical experts to remain low. Given this information, the CBE is not asking students returning from China to remain home from school. We will continue to follow of our standard processes for any illnesses in our schools. We would like to remind families of good hygiene practices. Here are some of the recommended ways to avoid the spread of common viruses:
If you know individuals with specific concerns related to potential exposures or related symptoms, please advise them to call Health Link at 811 for assessment and health advice. You can find more information related to the coronavirus on the Alberta Health Services and Government of Canada websites. Sincerely, Chris Buhler Principal WHAT WE DID TODAY...

Dear Parents,
We have started our next unit on multiplication and division. These are basic computational skills that children will use often, and skills that children must master to succeed in higher levels of mathematics. The focus of this unit is on developing strategies for multiplying and dividing with whole numbers. Children will identify patterns on multiplication charts, use mental math, and pose and solve problems. In this unit, your child will:
We use multiplication and division in many day-to-day situations. Encourage your child to practice the multiplication facts from 1 x 1 to 9 x 9. Talk with your child about the strategies you use to recall these facts. Here is an activity you can do at home: MULTIPLICATION CHALLENGE
We have organized some off-site field trips for students in Grade 4 to participate in. In order for these opportunities to go ahead, I am in need of parent volunteers. If you have a recent and current Security check, and would like to help us out, please let me know as soon as possible. I am current need of volunteers for the Leighton Centre field trip. Here are the dates & locations: WEDNESDAY, April 1 (All Day) - Aggie Days @ Stampede Park TUESDAY, June 2 (All Day) - Bar U Ranch Please take some time and look through our variety of math games under "Resources (Gr. 4)". These are a great way to review and learn those multiplication tables and have fun as a family. WHAT WE DID TODAY...

I've been a teacher at Chaparral School since 2010, in which I have taught grades 3, 4, and 5. I enjoy working with students in engaging activities that allow for personal growth, believing that each child can succeed and become independent learners who demonstrate personal responsibility. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, quilting, and gardening. Archives
